Terms
What you get when you buy a licence, what you may do with it, and how refunds work. Written to be readable — it is still a contract.
These terms govern your use of the software published by Desteba Productions S.L. ("we"): saimox Studio for macOS, including its 14-day trial and its free Player mode, and the free saimox players for iOS, Android and the web. Installing or using the software means you accept them. If you do not, do not install it.
If you are buying on behalf of a company, you confirm you are authorised to accept these terms for it. Where a player is distributed through an app store, that store's terms apply in addition.
These terms do not cover play.saimox.com, our hosting service, which has its own terms. They do not cover the saimox format itself either: the format is open and free for anyone to implement.
You are buying a perpetual licence for one major version, not a subscription and not ownership of the software itself. The licence does not expire and does not stop working if you never buy anything again.
Writing your own software that reads or writes the saimox format is explicitly permitted and encouraged. The format is not covered by this restriction.
Everything you produce is yours. We claim no rights over your audio, your projects, your exports or anything derived from them. No revenue share, no attribution requirement, no royalty.
There is no watermark, no per-release fee and no registration step. What the tool exports is finished and yours to deliver.
The audio you bring in is your responsibility. You confirm you hold the rights needed to process, convert and deliver it. The software runs on your machine and does not check or report what you work on.
The software writes files to published specifications — ADM BWF (ITU-R BS.2076), IAMF (Alliance for Open Media), IAB (SMPTE ST 2098-2), multichannel WAV and the saimox format. We warrant that our exports conform to those specifications as documented.
Whether a distributor, streaming service, label, broadcaster or codec licensor accepts a given file is their decision, made under rules that change without notice and that we do not control. We do not warrant acceptance by anyone. We are not affiliated with, and not endorsed by, Dolby, Apple, Google, Samsung or any other platform owner; their names and marks belong to them.
Tools that reduce object counts or adapt layouts for a delivery target help you meet that target's rules. Checking that a delivery actually meets them remains your job.
This is a professional audio tool. It can produce full-scale output on every channel of your rig, and features such as Live Lift route system audio to your speakers in real time. You choose the monitoring level, and you are responsible for protecting your hearing and your equipment. Start low. We are not liable for hearing damage, or for damage to loudspeakers, headphones or interfaces, caused by playback levels.
saimox files can react to sensors, biometric signals, the environment and the session. This is an artistic and playback feature. Nothing in the software is a medical device, and we make no claim that reactive playback diagnoses, treats or improves any health condition. Where a player reads biometric input, that input stays on the device.
Activation, deactivation and ordering talk to our server at api.saimox.com. What is sent: your licence key, your e-mail address, a hashed hardware identifier that cannot be reversed into your machine's serial number, and the name of the machine so you can recognise it when you manage seats. An activated copy checks in at most once a day with the key and the hashed identifier, to pick up upgrades and revocations. The trial and the free player send nothing. Details are in the privacy notice.
The server may be down for maintenance. Because the licence is verified offline, a down server does not stop an activated copy from working.
The software includes open-source components — among them libopus, libvorbis, Eigen, demucs.cpp, ZIPFoundation and the Alliance for Open Media IAMF tools — each under its own licence, reproduced in full in the notices file that ships with the application. MP4Box (GPAC, LGPL) runs as a separate program; its licence text and a link to its source are in the same file. Those licences govern those components; these terms govern everything else.
The full licence texts are on their own page: saimox.com/notices. The same file ships inside the application, so you have it offline too.
Anything marked beta, experimental, preview or DEV is offered as it is, may change or disappear, and is excluded from the warranty below. Do not build a delivery on it without checking the result.
Point updates within your major version are free. We provide security and bug-fix updates for your major version for at least 24 months from your purchase, and beyond that for as long as the version is supported. A new major version is a separate purchase, offered at an upgrade price. Your existing version keeps working regardless of whether you upgrade.
We may change or remove features between versions. Where a change removes something you relied on, we will say so in the release notes rather than let you find out.
14 days, no reason needed. If you are a consumer in the EU, you have a statutory right to withdraw from the purchase within 14 days of receiving your licence key.
Digital content is normally exempt from that right once delivery begins. We do not rely on that exemption — a free 14-day trial exists precisely so you can decide before paying, and we refund within the withdrawal period anyway.
We warrant that the software substantially does what this website says it does. If it does not, tell us and we will fix it or refund you.
Beyond that, the software is provided as it is. Professional audio work depends on your hardware, your drivers and your room, and we cannot warrant a result in an environment we have never seen. Statutory consumer rights under Spanish and EU law — including the conformity guarantee for digital content — are not affected by anything in this section.
We are liable for damage caused intentionally or by gross negligence, for personal injury, and for anything else that mandatory law does not allow us to exclude.
Otherwise our liability is limited to what you paid for the licence in the twelve months before the claim. We are not liable for lost profit, lost projects, lost data, a delivery rejected by a third party, a missed release date, or hearing or equipment damage caused by your monitoring levels. Keep backups and check your deliveries, as you would with any tool in your chain.
If you are a consumer, the limits in this section apply only as far as your mandatory rights allow.
You can stop using the software at any time. We may terminate a licence if it is shared publicly, resold, or used to circumvent the licence system — and only after telling you what the problem is and giving you a chance to fix it.
If we terminate without cause, you get a proportional refund. Files you already produced remain yours and remain usable.
saimox™ is a trade mark of Stephan Bergmann (EU application 019407507), used under licence by Desteba Productions S.L. You may use the name to say that something was made with saimox or plays saimox files. The format's name is free to use when describing compatibility.
Spanish law applies. If you are a consumer, you keep the protection of the mandatory rules of the country you live in, and you may bring proceedings in your own courts. The European Commission's online dispute resolution platform is available at ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr.
If you are a business, the courts of the judicial district of our registered office (Elche, Alicante) have exclusive jurisdiction.
The English text is the contract. If a clause here turns out to be unenforceable, the rest stays in force.
