On platforms
Authoring is macOS. Playing is everywhere.
Those are two different questions and they get two different answers.
Authoring runs on macOS, and that is a choice rather than a shortfall. Music production has had one technically leading platform at a time — the Atari once, the Mac since — and immersive work is where that gap is widest: Core Audio handles high channel counts without a detour, the driver situation is predictable, and Apple silicon renders hundreds of objects on a laptop.
Building for one platform properly beats building for three badly. Every hour not spent on driver differences is an hour spent on the format.
Playback is another matter entirely. A piece you author on a Mac plays on iOS, in any browser, and on Android next — none of which needs a licence, an account or an installation.
Point updates are free — everything from 1.0 to 1.9 is included in a 1.x licence, for as long as that version is supported
A major version is a separate purchase at an upgrade price. You are never forced to move in order to keep working
The application checks for updates itself and tells you when a new build is out. It never installs anything on its own, and an older build keeps working if you skip one
Removals are announced — if a change takes away something you relied on, it appears here before it ships, not after
The format stays readable — a file written today opens in a reader written years from now. Parsers ignore fields they do not know
